The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has stood beside Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim in the ongoing controversy, and lauded the response of the Bangladesh Premier League’s (BPL) governing body in regards to Barisal Bulls co-owner MA Awal Choudhury comments on Mushfiqur’s captaincy. The association believes what the Barisal Bulls co-owner had to say about Mushfiqur and his captaincy were were ‘unwarranted and disrespectful’.
The CWAB expressed their happiness at the quick response of BPL’s governing council. The cricketers also applauded the quick nature of the response from the governing body regarding disrespectful comments made by Awal Choudhury.
They hoped that fans, cricket lovers and all associated cricketing bodies and individuals would continue treat cricketers and the cricket team respectfully to enrich the status of Bangladesh cricket.
In the meantime, BPL governing council member secretary IH Mallick assured that they would take disciplinary action because the comments Awal had made were not appropriate.
Earlier, Awal had said: “We are totally not interested (in Mushfiqur). We sent a letter last year to him regarding his discipline issues and for making some bad comments regarding the franchise.”
Awal, who is also an influential BCB director and chairman of board’s women’s wing, had added: “The players expect that the captain will sit with them and encourage them, make team plans. He is a good player but he is not a good captain that is very important in T20 format.”
