Pakistan’s limited overs captain, Sarfraz Ahmed has been officially named as Pakistan’s new test captain. Sarfraz now will lead the Pakistan side in all three formats. He takes over the vacant post after the retirement of former captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
The Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan made the official announcement today. The announcement was made at a function held to honor the Champions Trophy winning side. In his announcement he said,“I take this opportunity to announce Ahmed as our Test captain in addition to one-day and Twenty20 captain.I and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq had decided already and I think this is the right time to declare it.”
Sarfraz is now being regarded a national hero after he lead the Pakistan side to a triumphant victory at the ICC Champions Trophy. The wicket keeper batsman is being showered with praises for his aggressive and positive captaincy. It seemed like a certainty for Sarfraz to be handed the Test captaincy alongside the ODI and T20 captaincy.
Sarfraz expressed his gratitude for being named the next captain and promised to bring success in all formats.“I am honored to be appointed Test captain.I will do my best to lift the team in all three formats and will not rest on Champions Trophy laurels.”
Sarfraz Ahmed will be Pakistan’s 32nd test captain. His tenure as test captain will begin later this year when Pakistan takes on Sri Lanka. Pakistan has been doing well in the five day format in the last few years. But after the retirement of Misbah and Younis Khan, a huge gap is left open in the Pakistan’s middle order. So, it’s going to be a challenge for Sarfraz to do well in the longest format with a young side in his disposal.
