Though Bangladesh’s ranking, despite this historic victory, has remained unchanged, it has affected the Australians big time. Because of this defeat, they lost three valuable rating points, and slipped to No.5 from the fourth position.
On the other hand, New Zealand have benefitted from Australia’s slippery. As Australia went down to No.5, the Kiwis took their place, and are now at No.4. Both have equal 97 points, but the Kiwis are ahead by the fraction of a point.
Before the start of the match, Australia had 100 points to their name. Losing 3 points after this match, they now have 97 points. And Bangladesh gained four points from this victory. From 69 points before the start of the match, they now have 73.
Here to be noted, there could be a chance of Bangladesh going up to No.8 with this victory. But that chance had diminished just yesterday after West Indies upsetting England to pick up one of their most famous victories in recent memory. However, Bangladesh still can move up to No.8, should they win the second and last match of the series as well, and register a rare 2-0 series victory over the mighty Aussies. But for that, West Indies too have to lose their remaining third match against England.
