National selectors announced the 14-member squad for the first Test against Australia on Saturday. In the press conference, talks mostly revolved around the omission of Mominul Haque. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ “বাংলাদেশ মানেই কেবল মুমিনুল নয়”]
Apart from the chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha also faced the journalists, and at one point angrily said that Bangladesh cricket team is not all about Mominul only.
Mominul had just two fifties in last 12 Tests. In last two Tests, he didn’t have one. This was the main reason the selectors showed behind his omission. But just in the previous match he had played in Wellingston against New Zeland, he had made 64 in difficult conditions. He had also played a match-winning 66 in Bangladesh’s last Test match at home against England.
But Hathurusingha believed that the journalists were making things complicated by raising questions behind Mominul’s drop out. “You are making it difficult. We have no personal conflict with any cricketer. We just want to pick up the best cricketers and bring out the best of them,” he said.
He also added, “Bangladesh is not all about just Mominul. It is a team of 11 cricketers who all try hard to win matches for the country. You are too much concerned about a select few. But we consider everyone equally, and we are giving everyone the opportunity they deserve.”
