After a complete dominance by Bangladesh on Day 2, they will be all set to start Day 3 with the mission of setting a big target. The day would have been even more successful for the Tigers if Soumya Sarkar didn’t lose his cool right before the end of the play.
Everyone knew there were only 12 balls to go, Soumya Sarkar certainly knew that too but it looked like his mind had other plans as he came down the wicket and tried to hit a six which in the end went straight to the hands of Usman Khawaja who took the catch after his third attempt.
When nothing is in your favor, that’s what happens and Soumya Sarkar is the clear example of it. Looking at Soumya Sarkar’s recent ODI form, was it even logical to call him even for the Test squad?
In the end, he got chance in the starting XI ahead of Mominul Haque who is one of the best Test batsmen in Bangladesh and clearly a Test material.
Coach Haturusingha plays a crucial part in this as many reports say that the selectors gave him the power to make his team. Bangladesh is playing amazing cricket under his coaching, but it can take a bad turn if he misuses the power.
Players like Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar and some others are always no. 1 in his favorite list. They are getting chances in every format of the game no matter how much inconsistent they are.
Because of this in form & experienced batsman like Shahriar Nafees & Mominul Haque are getting ignored. Even a senior player like Mahmudullah Riyad is dropped from the Test squad because of his poor form.
By seeing that, there should be no justification for giving so many chances to Soumya & Sabbir who are not even matured yet to handle the pressure of Test Cricket.
It’s about time the selectors & the coach should start taking these things to concern. As long as the team is winning it will look good only until then, when they will be losing some matches it will all go down to the player selections of the coach as its always easy to find negativity than positivity.
