Chandimal, Thirimanne called in the team after Tharanga’s ban

Chandimal ruled out of 1st two Tests against IndiaSri Lanka cricket board has called the Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne after the ban of Upul Tharanga on the second ODI against India due to slow over rate.

Sri Lanka were found three overs short according to the match referee Andy Pycroft after India completed their chase of 231 recovering from a drastic batting collapse of 131-7.

Tharanga was previously banned due to this slow over rate in ICC Champions Trophy against South Africa.

Sri Lanka will also miss the opener Danushka Gunathilaka after he hurt his shoulder while fielding. He is unlikely to be available for the next two games as Thirimanne is about to replace him and Chandimal takes the spot at no.4.

Sri Lanka’s selectors were meeting in Kandy to name the interim captain in the absence of Tharanga.

Sources said that middle-order batsman Chamara Kapugedera has emerged as the leading candidate despite his mediocre record.
