Graeme Smith appointed as Benoni Zalmi Head CoachThe former South African Captain Graeme Smith has been appointed as the head coach of the T20 global league franchise Benoni Zalmi, according to the statement of Zalmi owner Javed Afridi on Monday.

Smith, last played a competitive game for Somerset on 2014 and he has a highly experienced international career of playing 117 Tests out of which he led the national team of South Africa in 109 Tests.

The 36-year old has to work quite sharply to build a team among 400 players from the auction.

Geoffrey Toyana, the head coach of Highveld Lions, is named as Smith’s assistant.

“I am personally passionate about creating young leaders and I believe there is no one better than Graeme Smith. He is a model of leadership and inspiration for the talent in the team Benoni Zalmi,” said Afridi.

On the other side, Durban Qalandars have appointed the Delhi Daredevils Coach Paddy Upton for their charge of the team who will be backed up by former Pakistani pacer Akib Javed.
