Hazlewood suffered pain on his left side during the Dhaka Test against Bangladesh on the third day. The quick bowler felt the pain on the side just after bowling his first ball of the second over in the day, his fifth in the innings.
He had clutched his left side and talked to skipper Steve Smith before leaving the ground. He didn’t not bowl anymore in the innings as his spell in the second innings was none for 3 in four overs including two maidens. He was wicketless in the first inningd as well. He bowled 15 overs for 39 runs with five maidens.
It was confirmed after the end of the third day that Hazlewood will not be able to play the second Test in Chittagong which starts from September 4. He will also miss out the five-match ODI series in India next month.
Pat Cummins was the second fast bowler for Australia in the first Test. Australia have paceman Jackson Bird and all-rounder Hilton Cartwright, who is yet to make debut and bowls medium pace.
A replacement in the Test squad will be announced on Wednesday. Hazlewood will bat for Australia in the second innings if required. Australia need 156 runs to win with eight wickets remaining.
