Nannu announced the 14-man squad on Saturday. It was already heard before that batsmen Mahmudullah Riyad and Mominul Haque were going to be dropped as they didn’t take part in warm-up match in Dhaka.

Both of them were dropped from the XI in Bangladesh’s 100th landmark Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo in March this year.

“It was expected that Mahmudullah would not be in the squad because he did not play the final Test in Sri Lanka,” Nannu said after announcing the squad.

“Mominul also missed out the last Test match. In addition, the kind of statistics that we have, they indicate he is not in good form,” he explained.

“He scored just one fifty in the last six innings since January. Yet, he is in our plan for the future. (But) at the moment, we are preferring Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar more in his position,” he added.

However, Mahmudullah and Mominul will take part in BCB XI’s warm-up match against Australia on August 22-23 with the former leading the side.

Pacers Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Rubel Hossain and Subashis Roy were also dropped. Nasir Hossain and Shafiul Islam earned recalls.
