Moeen had blasted a scintillating knock of 75 runs and was unbeaten in the second innings watching his side being bowled out scoring 243 runs. He was not out scoring 67 runs in the third evening.
Moeen Ali, rapidly improving as an all-rounder, became the first English spinner to take so many wickets (25) in a series since 1958.
He claimed a hat-trick in the third Test and in the fourth day of the fourth Test at the Old Trafford, the 30 year old Birmingham star picked up two wickets in successive deliveries to finish South Africa’s second innings.
With taking 2 wickets for 70 runs, Moeen Ali’s figure rapidly turned into 5 for 80 at the end of the match. He is now rated besides great English post war spinners like Jim Laker and Graeme Swann.
Moeen batted at the lower order, scored 14 off 12 in the first inning total of England where they all out scoring 362 runs.
The first innings of South Africa conceded him 2 wickets giving away 57 runs in an economy rate of 2.71.
In the second innings of the hosts, with a strike rate of more than 113, Moeen blasted 75 off 66 deliveries with nine fours.
