Bangladesh’s young batting star, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, was dropped from the 14 man squad for the 1st Test against Australia, after initially being picked. Selectors said his omission from the squad was due to his eye troubles, which he hasn’t recovered from yet. Mominul Haque came into the side as his replacement. But the situation has become much more complicated as now it seems that Mosaddek most likely will be missing out from the entirety of the Australia series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) has announced the 16 man squad for the High Performance(HP) team’s tour to England. And, to many people’s surprise, Mosaddek has been included in the HP squad. Which pretty much rules out his chances to be included in the squad for the 2nd Test against Australia.
Mominul’s exclusion from the Test side created a huge uproar among the supporters and former cricketers. Current cricketers also made their displeasure known about the decision. Selectors and head coach Chandika Hathrusingha were bombarded with questions about dropping Mominul. Many feel that Mosaddek was dropped from the side, only to bring back Mominul. It’s rumored that the BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon made this decision to calm the situation down. In a way Mosaddek has become the ‘scapegoat’ in this whole fiasco.
Mosaddek is currently in Thailand for treatment and will fly with the HP squad to England if he’s declared fit.
And it’s quite evident, that the Mominul and Mosaddek saga is far from being over.
