Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock, has urged the Cricket South Africa(CSA) to coax their best batsman AB de Villiers back in the Test side prior to the crucial Test series against India and Australia.
South Africa is currently taking on England in a four match Test series, but de Villiers is absent from the side. He is taking a break to manage the stress of playing all three formats. But in his absence the South African batting line-up has failed to impress. There middle order is looking vulnerable when put under pressure.
Pollock feels that de Villiers’s inclusion in the upcoming important fixtures is a must and wants the board to convince de Villiers to take part if required.
Pollock said,“I definitely think they’ve got to go down the route of trying to convince AB de Villiers, even if it is just for six months for those two big tours, that he needs to make himself available.”
“Then, the next step would be to try and find someone consistent at the top of the order. I think those are the two big challenges for the South Africans,” he added.
The 33-year old batsman has not played a Test match for South Africa since January 2016. Injuries also sidelined him for much of that year. Since then many have been speculating that de Villiers might say goodbye to Test cricket and only focus on the shorter formats. But de Villiers has yet to say anything definite on the matter.
