India are 344/3 in 90 overs at stumps with having Pujara and Rahane unbeaten at the crease. Pujara crossed 4000 runs landmark in his 50th Test. He scored his 13th Test century as he made 128 runs off 225 balls with ten fours and a six. He became the fourth Indian to complete 4000 Test runs within first fifty matches.

Rahane, on the other hand, also reached three figures. It was his ninth century in Tests. He scored 103 runs from 168 balls hitting 12 fours. The unbroken Pujara-Rahane partnership added 211 runs for the fourth wicket.

Ealier in the day, India chose to bat first at the SSC. KL Rahul made comeback to the Test team. He made his return in style as he came up with 57 runs from 82 balls with 7 fours. It was his sixth consecutive fifty in Test matches. He became the third Indian to do so. But he hasn’t converted any of those into hundreds.

Shikhar Dhawan made 37 at the top while skipper Virat Kohli failed to score big. He was dismissed by Rangana Herath for only 13 runs. It’s the fourth time he has been dismissed to a left-arm spinner in Tests this year. Taijul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, Steve O’Keefe and Herath have dismissed him.

Brief scores:

India 344/3 in 90 overs (Pujara 128*, Rahane 103*; Dilruwan 1/68, Herath 1/83)
