Shakib is only the fourth bowler in the history to take fifers against nine nations in Tests. Muttiah Muralitharan, Dale Steyn and Rangana Herath were the previous bowlers to achieve this feat.
On his 50th Test match, the maverick all-rounder made 84 runs with the bat against the Aussies. He contributed with the ball too. He dismissed nightwatchman Nathan Lyon for lbw on the first evening.
He later took the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Matt Renshaw on the second morning which left Australia in hasle. The left-armer dismissed Pat Cummins and last-man Josh Hazlewood in the last session to complete his milestone.
Shakib bowled 25.5 overs which contained seven maidens and gave only 68 runs for five wickets at 2.63. It was his first Test appearance against Australia.
Shakib had five-wicket hauls against other eight teams he played. Out of his 16 five-fors, he took three of them against Zimbabwe, two each against Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand, England and one each against India, Pakistan and Australia.
Shakib and others’ disciplined performance have helped Bangladesh bowl Australia out for 217 runs in 74.5 in reply to their 260.
