Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim heaped praise on his all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and opener Tamim Iqbal, whose stunning performance earned the Tigers a maiden Test win over Australia in thrilling fashion.
In the first innings, Mr. all-rounder had smashed 84 under pressure and then claimed five-wicket hauls in each of Australian innings, helping the side to register a 20-run victory against Australia in the two-match Test series.
On the other hand, Tamim Iqbal was the most accomplished batsman from both sides in the Test, showing amazing skill and temparament. The only batsman never looked out of his comfort zone even on such an unpredictable wicket. No wonder, he scored most runs in this historical Test Match and was instrumental in bringing the result in Tigers’ favour.
“It’s a great feeling beating Australia, especially Shakib and Tamim [Iqbal, who scored 71 and 78] were outstanding. The performance has been consistent,” Mushfiqur Rahim told reporters at the post-match conference.
He added, “Our spinners – Taijul [Islam] and Shakib – were brilliant. There is a lot of room for improvement. With 150 runs [on the board] and eight wickets to take, the boys showed character.”
Mushfiqur concluded by saying, “Hopefully, in the next Test we will come harder and seal the series.”
