The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB’s) media committee’s chairman Jalal Younus on Thursday (August 3) said that the upcoming Test series against Australia would be huge for Bangladesh cricket as they don’t usually get the opportunity against the Aussies.
“We are very delighted to welcome them. It is a big series for us because we don’t get the chance to play lot of Test matches and more so in our own backyard. So playing these two Test matches is definitely huge for our cricket,” Jalal Younus the BCB media committee chairman told reporters in Mirpur.
It will be the first time Australia touring Bangladesh since 2006. They last played in Bangladesh in 2006 under the captaincy of former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting.
However, Cricket Australia (CA) denied to send team in Bangladesh for two Tests in 2015 and then pulled out the U19 team from the junior World Cup 2016 due to security concerns. While talking about that, Jalal said that their happiness is doubled as Australia is all set to arrive after refusing to come over to Bangladesh on two occasions previously.
“They did not arrive here earlier on two occasions but now as they are coming, it is definitely big thing for us. Though they did not say anything officially, they did not for once give us any negative impression. So we always remained confident about hosting the series,” Jalal added.
