Before the start of the Test series between Bangladesh & Australia, players of both the teams were already in a battle of words in the press conference. Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan said they will beat Australia while Aussie skipper Steven Smith hearing that, he said “Oh its pretty confident, I think Bangladesh won only 9 games out of 100.”
Well, the skipper never thought Bangladesh’s 10th win will come so quickly and that too against them. Many people might not had belief that Bangladesh will win the first Test, but the no. 1 all-rounder in the world Shakib Al Hasan had belief in himself and the whole team right from the word go. His performance and dedication from the beginning rightly says so.
After winning the toss & electing to bat first, Bangladesh were in all sorts of trouble after losing 3 wickets for just 10 runs. Then came Shakib Al Hasan & joined in form Tamim Iqbal and made a solid partnership together of 155 runs which was a mighty tough task in this sort of track. Tamim scored 71 runs while Shakib was out cheaply for 84 runs. After their departure, Bangladesh’s famous batting collapse began and they were all out for 260 runs. It looked like they were 30-40 runs short for taking lead but Shakib’s magic didn’t end yet as he went on to take 5 wicket-haul and knocked out Aussies in the first innings for 217 runs.
In the 2nd innings Bangladesh were all out for 221 runs & set target of 265 runs. They were favorites to win as they got two quick wickets but Cricket is a game of uncertainty. David Warner & Steven Smith were taking the game away from Bangladesh until Shakib started to explode once again and removed both the set batsman, then picked up yet another fifer. Bangladesh ended up winning the match by 20 runs and created history once again after beating Australia for the first time in Test.
Shakib Al Hasan’s batting, his every delivery, his every celebration looked completely different than his usual character in this test match. He was excited than ever and his dedication was something else. He bowled 25.5 overs in the first innings & 28 overs in the 2nd innings including many long spells. Hardwork pays off and that’s what Shakib showed. After the match he said “Australia will respect us more now.” They surely will, after all they too know now what Shakib says, Shakib does.
