Ashraful startled at the decision of toss

It was preconceived that Batsmen would rule over the bowlers at the beginning of Potchefstroom test. So toss was also a matter of concern along with selection of XI. Yet Mushfiqur won the toss but took a surprising decision. He selected to field first even in this dry batting friendly wicket.

So the decision of toss has been one of the reasons of staying on backfoot after the end of day one. Former captain of Bangladesh national cricket team Mohammad Ashraful is also surprised and shocked in this strange decision.

During the first day’s playing, Ashraful told in an interview to media, “The XI selection was good but it would be better to select batting first because wicket is completely batting friendly.”

In this time he also tried to find out the reason of Mushfiqur’s decision to field first. He added, “I think he took fielding to start safely as they have gone to play in SA after long years. How the wicket would react, was also a concern of them. For this reason maybe he took this decision to understand the wicket for their batting in next innings. Maybe he was scared of sudden collapse of batting order. It’s just my guess. Maybe it sort of thing was thought. If so, then I would like to say that we should not play keeping a negative idea inside our mind.”

Ashraful thought that Bangladesh might suffer for this decision. He said, “The decision of taking fielding will make us suffer. Because even in first season they have taken such runs that they can not be stopped early. If they can take more than five hundred runs, Bangladesh can’t do well after fielding for such a long time. It is tough to bat well staying tired, at the same way having a big pressure of runs over head they can’t play well. I think we should have a positive and aggressive beginning. It was a big mistake to send them to bat first having a defensive mood of us.”

But this former captain and youngest century holder in test doesn’t have any dissatisfaction with XI selection and keeping. He said, “I would like to say that the XI is good enough. Though Liton couldn’t play well in practice match, yet he has the ability to play test. He should make the best use of this opportunity. But Mushfiqur’d better not do keeping. He is one of the best batsmen in the team. It might be very tough for him to bat well after keeping for this ling period.”
