Sabbir, who was under critics for his place in the Test XI, reached his fourth half-century in 62 balls. But the hard-hitting batsman couldn’t convert it into a ton as he was stumped off Nathan Lyon for career-best 66 runs off 113 deliveries in including 6 fours and a six. The 105-run partnership for the sixth-wicket was finally broken.
Lyon picked his 11th Test five-wicket haul. He has done it in three consecutive matches.
Watchful Mushfiqur scored his 18th Test fifty in 124 balls. Nasir Hossain needed 6 runs to complete his 1000 Test runs. On 2*, he cut Lyon for a boundary to become the joint-fourth fastest Bangladeshi to reach 1000 runs.
Mushfiqur and Nasir saw the rest of the day safely. Nasir hit three boundaries in his 33-ball 19*. Captain Mushfiqur is on 62* off 149 balls with five fours.
98 runs were scored in this session. Sabbir’s wicket was the only scalp for Aussies. Bangladesh ended the day on 253/6 in 90 overs. Earlier, Bangladesh elected to bat first on a batting friendly pitch in Chittagong.
