A single Test match was held in Senwes Park in Potchefstroom that was, even, occurred fifteen years back in 2015. It emerged as a Test venue in 2002 with match between Bangladesh and South Africa. The field has been almost abandoned as a Test venue for more than a decade till then.
The other venue Mangaung Oval has also been deserted from holding Test matches since long. The last occasion when Mangaung Oval watched a five day match was back in 2008. Nine years passed since then when once again South Africa played against Bangladesh in that particular venue.
Playing in quite unknown and uninhabited venues might procure big troubles for Bangladesh in the field. BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Akram Khan said, “No guest team can insist about any particular venue or demand to play in any specific venue. The visiting team can only let the host know about their choices. The fixation of venues depend upon the board of the host country.”
“We only look around the facilities of a particular venue, the indoor and outdoor practice areas, five star hotels and security systems,” said Akram Khan.
BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman also told that although the venues of Bangladesh matches have been in use to play Test matches, it hosts first class cricket in regular basis.
