It would be Bangladesh’s first Test against South Africa since last nine years when the Tigers will take on the Proteas at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Thursday. The particular ground is also going to host its first Test match after the year 2002. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ প্রথম টেস্টে বাংলাদেশের সম্ভাব্য একাদশ]
The first Test of the two match Test series between Bangladesh and South Africa will start 2.00 pm Bangladesh standard time.
Bangladesh is now a far more different team that travelled South Africa in 2002 and 2008. The then minnows has turned into a giant competitor over the last several years beating top ranked teams which was first started in one day internationals than stretched the mark into the elite arena as well.
Scalping the teams like England and Australia certainly pushed the meter of confidence higher enough to face a tough opponent away from home although Bangladesh has to prove a lot playing in foreign wickets.
However, the supposedly pace friendly pitches of the African continent pushed the national team selectors to rely on fast bowling heavily than the usual spin oriented selection at home.
And the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain might reap great opportunities to thrash the opponent eclipsing spinners in the team who brought the major successes for Bangladesh over the years in all formats of the game.
The condition at the Senwes Park is rather obscure as there had been no Test matches happened at the ground in last fifteen years. And there is also a forecast of rain during the match. Bangladesh was the only team played in the first ever Test match at the Senwes Park, that was back in 2002.
For South Africa, the season is going to start afresh under the new coach Ottis Gibson; Gibson, meanwhile, warned against any sort of complacency on the side of the home team.
Aiden Markram will make his debut for the Proteas.
