Bangladesh tour was challenging: Smith

Australia had to contend with a heavy diet of spin bowling, with Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam accounting for 26 wickets during the side’s recent two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

However, the Aussie skipper Steve Smith is confident his team will adapt to spin-friendly conditions in the upcoming ODI series in India despite struggling in the longest format in Bangladesh.

Speaking to the media at the arrival press conference in Chennai, Smith termed the recently concluded Bangladesh series as ‘challenging’. “We have come from a challenging tour from Bangladesh,” he said.

The skipper also has claimed the players are learning from the mistakes they did in Bangladesh series. “The guys are learning and trying to improve. So, hopefully they can continue to do so. [I am] not sure the one-day wickets will present quite as much spin [as] perhaps some of the Test wickets,” Smith said.

He added on the same, “But we have to wait and see and adapt to the conditions accordingly. I think the one-day group has played spin pretty well for a while. Obviously we are still learning in the Test format.”
