Board grants leave for Shakib in the first Test against SA

The first hour was tough for Shakib and co.

The squad to tour South Africa this month is yet to be announced by national team selectors but they have approved the urge of Shakib Al Hasan for a short interval from playing Test cricket. Although the time is reported to be curtailed, BCB operations committee chairman Akram Khan said Shakib will be rested in the first Test against South Africa. Akram Khan also said the world number one all-rounder could participate in the second Test of the upcoming series if he wants to.

Bangladesh will play two Test matches, three one day international matches and two T20 matches against the Proteas, the first Test is scheduled to occur from 28th of September.

Report said Shakib applied to the board president for a short intermission from Test cricket right after the first Test match against Australia in Dhaka. He marked out to be tired playing amidst intense cricketing schedule throughout the year.

Shakib Al Hasan has so far played 51 Test matches for Bangladesh, 177 one day international matches and 59 T20 matches.

Shakib played in 51 Test matches after making debut in 2007 in the time span when Bangladesh played a total of 58 Test matches.

Shakib applied for a leave of six months from Test cricket; Bangladesh is scheduled to play four Test matches in this period, the two against South Africa and another pair of Tests against Sri Lanka in December.
