Chief selector insisted to select Mahmudullah in Test squad

The decision, at that time, was highly criticized by cricket fraternity and fans around the country. Now, as Bangladesh is preparing for one more Test series, Mahmudullah Riyad has been called in the Test team once again.

The inclusion of Mahmudullah Riyad in the Test squad, is reported to happen under ‘personal influence’ of chief selector.

Defending his decision, chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu told in the briefing after announcing the squad for South Africa that it was he who wanted Mahmudullah in the team.

“Personally I wanted him in the squad. I’m quite confident about him. He did well against England. He played well in square of the wicket, I put much trust upon him,” said chief selector.

“Mahmudullah always plays well in bouncy wickets. He bats well where ball comes fast in bat; we selected him above those considerations,” chief selector added.

On the other hand, Minhajul Abedin also stated the absent of Shakib Al Hasan is another reason behind selection of Mahmudullah Riyad in Test squad.

“We will not find Shakib in the team for upcoming series, this is one of the reasons behind selecting Mahmudullah Riyad,” he said.

Playing 33 Test matches so far for Bangladesh, Mahmudullah Riyad scored a single century, that was against New Zealand.
