Guyana knocked out Jamaica to secure Qualifier berth

Mahmudullah picked up 3 wickets for 25 runs in CPL

The defending champions of Caribbean Premier League, Jamaica Tallawahs have been knocked out from fifth edition of CPL after losing the eliminator match to Guyana Amazon Warriors by 5 wickets.

After asking to bat first, Jamaica set a fighting total of 168-8 runs with the help of skipper Kumar Sangakkara’s 38-ball 57 runs and  34 runs from Lendle Simmons in the starter of the match.

In reply, aiming to secure the Qualifier-2 berth, Guyana lost Sohail Tanvir early of the innings. But L Ronchi alongside CAK Walton gave a solid foundation to Guyana in the second wicket stand. They added 67 runs in the second wicket partnership.

Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad gave the much needed breakthrough by dismissing Walton (39) in the ninth over of the match. He did his best job and grabbed JN Mohammad and J Singh’s wickets later on but his 4-0-25-3 went in vain as other bowlers failed to deliver their best on the other side of the wicket.

L Ronchi’s firing knock of 70 runs from just 33 balls alongside AB Fudadin’s 29 balls vital knock of 24 runs secure Guyana’s Qualifier-2 berth as well as a the 5-wicket victory.

Apart from Mahmudullah’s 25-3, Sami and Santokie grabbed 1 wicket each.
