I still have a lot to give to national team: Shahadat

Bangladesh last played a test match against South Africa back in 2008. In that series, Shahadat Hossain bowled very well. When Bangladesh is all set to take on South Africa again in a Test series, Shahadat Hossain is just a spectator now. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ ‘আমি পারফরম্যান্সের কারণে বাদ পড়িনি’]

When asked about the memories of 2008, the right arm pacer said: “I remember that match very well. We lost the match because of our batting. We couldn’t  score much in the 1st innings & in the 2nd innings as well. We scored only 180 runs (actually 182). The batting line up we have now, we could have won the match with this line up.”

Shahadat talked about his performance too: “The biggest thing about me was that I could swing with the old ball too. But I got wickets with the new ball on that day. I got the wicket of Smith first and that increased my confidence. When I got the wicket of McKenzie, I started to believe that something will happen today. I always had confidence that I can do something with the old ball and that happened too. But then again, if our batsmen could have do something…”

He also talked about taking on against such a big team like South Africa: “We battled. Bangladesh was no where to be seen in the Test rankings in that time. I couldn’t even bowl in the 2nd innings in most of the matches. And, 205 runs was nothing big for South Africa. They had world class batsmen. Still I got 5 wickets. If we could score more, then something would have happened. But I’m proud the way we battled against South Africa in that time.”

Lastly, Shahadat still dreams to play in the national team: “I was left out from the team due to injuries. Not because of my performance. I still have a lot to give to the national team. I hope I can do something special and make a comeback in the team.”
