The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted the short leave Shakib Al Hasan asked for from Test cricket although the authorities have curtailed it for even a shorter period of time, as per saying of BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Akram Khan, Shakib could play in the second Test of the tour ‘if he wishes to’.
One of the former BCB Directors, Khondokar Jamil Uddin manifested his surprise over the precipitant decision of Shakib Al Hasan to leave cricket, said he hardly believed his ears when he heard the news.
Talking to one of the online portals of the country, Khondokar Jamil said, “I thought was Shakib said that at all. I heard him wishing to play more Tests before the series against Australia.”
“Bangladesh have less busy international schedules than countries like England and Australia. We play a few Test matches in a year. The issue seems rather obscure to me. Why Shakib has turned into wrong side when Bangladeshi cricketers always eagerly wait to play a Test match?” he said.
“I want to trust that Shakib have taken the decision only for physical or mental strain, and there are no other reasons behind it. I think BCB should take the matter seriously. I thank BCB for honoring his wish but I also wish Shakib will join in the team for the second Test against South Africa,” former BCB Director said.
“Without Shakib, Bangladesh will be down in mental strength also although it is true that we might have to play without him someday,” Khondokar Jamil added.
