Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided not to renew the contract of coach Lalchand Rajput. So Afghanistan is set to announce a new coach. According to few reports, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif is their first priority.
In June 2016, Lalchand Rajput was appointed as the coach of Afghanistan. Mohammad Kaif was also in the race but couldn’t take up the role in the end. But this time the road seems clear for the former middle order batsman.
ACB will soon meet with Mohammad Kaif to negotiate. If everything goes right, then its about time Kaif will be seen as the Afghanistan coach.
Kaif played 13 Tests and 123 ODIs for India and he is remembered in the cricket world for his heroic knock against England to clinch the Natwest ODI series back in 2002.
He was also recognized as one of the best fielder in the world in his time. In the last IPL, he was the fielding coach of Gujrat Lions.
Afghanistan is a team who has started doing wonders in the cricket world. They beat Sri Lanka recently in their den which hit the headlines all over. They have also got the Test status recently along with Ireland. Mohammad Kaif will be all pumped up if he gets the opportunity to coach this rising team.
