Though before the start of the series he expressed that he feels uncomfortable to bat at one down, he said to a reporter on Monday that he is working to make himself comfortable to bat in that position.
Batting at one down hasn’t done any good for Imrul Kayes yet as he scored only 217 runs including a hundred in 9 innings. But Kayes believes this poor run won’t continue for long: “Look, at a time I used to open. I got success too. Now I bat at one down, I scored hundred playing in that position too. Its not like that I can’t play at one down, though my average at one down is less. I am working hard to improve so that I can do well in the future.”
Kayes doesn’t want to give any excuses for his poor show against Australia and he believes as a cricketer he should have the ability to bat at any position for the team: “In every series, the target of a batsman is to perform well. To score runs. If he score runs, the team will be in good position. In the last series, I couldn’t perform well. I feel bad. As a cricketer it will be better to not give any kind of excuses.”
The left hand batsman also believes the South Africa tour will be a challenge for himself and the team as well: “South Africa tour will be challenging for everyone. Not only for me. Everyone knows that it will be a tough condition there. But still I will try to play well and adapt with the condition.”
He added: “When I played against South Africa in 2008 in their home, it was my Test debut. It was very difficult for me as I was new in Test cricket. It was a very difficult series for me. I played for the Academy and the A team too.”
Imrul Kayes has all to prove in the upcoming series starting from 28th September which could be his last series for a time being if he fails to score runs and make a statement.
