Bangladesh made a shaky start in their first innings. Australia’s only genuine fast bowler in the playing XI, Pat Cummins bowled a very fast spell at the top. Although he almost had Tamim Iqbal but Glenn Maxwell dropped an easy chance at third slip.
Hometown hero Tamim’s stay was not long enough. He mistimed a defence against Nathan Lyon which cost him his wicket. He made only 9 runs off 34 balls. Lyon soon struck again. A DRS review got Australia the wicket of out-of-touch Imrul Kayes, who made 4 off 11.
Bangladesh were two wickets down for 21 runs in 13.4 overs. Soumya Sarkar was joined by the comeback man Mominul Haque. Soumya batted confidently despite the fall of wickets. Mominul was back at number four position, the position which gave him a lot of success in the past.
Soumya and Mominul put on 49-run stand in 96 balls. Soumya fell to Lyon in the last over of the session. He failed to make his innings bigger as he made 33 runs off 81 balls with two fours and a six. Mominul is unbeaten on 24 off 52 with one boundary.
Bangladesh have gone to lunch at 70/3 in 29.4 overs. Lyon took all three wickets in the session.
Bangladesh 70/3 in 29.4 overs (Soumya 33, Mominul 24*; Lyon 3/29)
