Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim feels that the absence of star players in the Proteas side due to injuries in the upcoming series will give the Tigers edge. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ “স্টেইন-ফিল্যান্ডাররা না থাকায় বাংলাদেশ কিছুটা এগিয়ে থাকবে”]
AB de Villiers will be unavailable for Bangladesh Tests. Dale Steyn is not fit yet to play while injuries of Vernon Philander and Chris Morris put South Africa under fast bowler crisis against Bangladesh.
“I think South Africa are still a great side because they have great bowlers and batsmen.
“It’s a team game and they still have a very balanced, strong side. It will be challenging still, but without Steyn and Philander will probably give us a bit more of an edge. It’s not going to be easy to play against South Africa in their own conditions so this is the next step. We want to do well abroad and this is a great opportunity for us,” Mushfiqur told the local media on Thursday.
Despite the absence of high-impact players from the Proteas side, Mushfiqur is still aware of the tough conditions in South Africa. But the development in recent years give the Tigers confidence.
“You know when you are playing in South Africa that all the teams face difficulties. The fast bowlers and how we cope with those challenges (will be the key). As a nation we haven’t played too many overseas Tests, but in the last two-and-a-half years we have been developing as a team,” he added.
The first Test will begin from 28 September in Potchefstroom. Bangladesh are touring South Africa for the first time in nine years.
