When Tamim was asked about the importance of scoring two fifties in his 50th test in the context of his career for Bangladesh, Tamim said, “It looks very important now especially when the wicket was behaving differently. I tried my best even after we lost some early wickets in the first Innings.”
“Then I & Shakib built a partnership and those 70 runs in both innings looks very crucial at the end. I would have loved to score a hundred, at least in one of them but that’s how Cricket goes.”
He was questioned whether it was the most important victory of his career; Tamim said,”One of the most important victories. I won’t say it’s the most, but it’s definitely up there. Beating Australia anywhere is not that easy. The way we played is really something to be proud of.”
Then he was asked, “You had a wonderful couple of years since the 2015 World Cup. Can you talk us through the mindset, the way you changed your game?”
Tamim answered describing the changed scenario, “Well, I have been scoring runs since last 2 and a half years and I think the main change was in my mentality. I think I am now more focused and I know what I’m doing in training. The training part was the key. When I bat, I bat with a purpose that has been really good for me and I’m just trying to take it easy and concentrate when I’m getting a start.”
It was inquired that the mental strength he spoke of, was that the foundation found in tough period in the middle of your career?
The hard hitter answered in affirmative notion, said,”Definitely. You know I have seen it all. I have been criticized and that’s how it is in cricket. But good thing is I took lesson from it and I hope if I ever fall in that situation again, I can handle it well.”
The prolific left handed batsman of team Bangladesh said he is ready to hit the top gear in the peak of the career.
“I hope so. This is what I have been hearing too. The greats someone like Kumar Sangakkara or Sachin Tendulker, they always say this is the age when you start scoring runs and understand your game the best. I hope this happens with me too.”
When he was asked specifically about his goal, Tamim Iqbal said, “I think last 2 years I have been doing great. I hope coming years will be even better and becoming the best batsman in the world is my goal. The first target is to be in top 10 which I haven’t achieved yet. If I can able to achieve top 10 then I will take it from there.”
