Tamim didn’t open for first time in International Cricket

Tamim Iqbal didn't open innings for the first time

In the first test against South Africa at Potchefstroom, Tamim didn’t open the innings. Imrul Kayes & Liton Das started Bangladesh’s innings. Before this test, Tamim played 51 tests for Bangladesh and batted in 98 innings. He opened in every single innings.

On the other hand, he played 173 ODIs and batted in 171 innings and his position was always the same. In the shorter format of the game, the position remained the same. He played 51 T20Is and opened in all the matches. 

For the first time in International Cricket, Tamim Iqbal didn’t open the innings. Some thought he got injured, but it was for a reason that most of the people doesn’t know.

In the 2nd session of the 2nd day when South Africa was batting, Tamim was out of the field for 49 minutes. In that time, South Africa declared their innings and put Bangladesh to bat. As Tamim was not in the field last hour, he could not open the innings as per rule. 

Liton Das opening the innings for first time. His partnership with Imrul Kayed lasted for only 34 balls as Kayes lost his wicket to Rabada when the team’s score was 16. Tamim came to bat at no.5 after the skipper’s dismissal. In the end, it was a good ploy by South African captain Faf du Plessis to declare the innings on 496.
