Tigers opener Tamim Iqbal’s two innings of 71 and 78 against Australia in the just concluded first Test in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, have lifted him six places to a career-best 14 position.
Riding on Tamim’s heroics with the bat, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 20 runs. Tamim however feels it would been great if he could transform any of the innings into a hundred.
“Had I scored a century in one of the two innings, I might have entered into the top ten list. It’s a big thing to be among the top 10. Also it’s respectful for the country’s cricket as well,” said Tamim on Wednesday.
The Southpaw also pointed that the deliveries which sent him back to the pavilion in both innings were unplayble as well as out of his control.
“I don’t think anyone can have a question on my dismissal as it was unplayable and out of my control,” he added.
The left-handed batsman concluded by saying that he dreams of becoming the number one batsman in the world. “Obviously I do want to be among the top ten batsmen, even my dream is even bigger. Why not number one? We play in order to be the best,” he concluded.
