Bangladesh might have lost the match in the third day of the Test when Aussies took 72 runs lead in their first innings; the Tigers could not eclipse the lead with a big second innings, hence they faltered scoring 157 runs, leaving just 85 to score for the visiting team.
Admitting the fact of drastic batting failure, Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said they should have scored more runs, “The wicket in the first innings was pretty good and a couple of soft dismissals cost us out there. We had to score around 350-400 in the first innings and that cost us the game.”
Appreciating Lyon’s bowling, Mushfiqur Rahim said, “I thought Lyon bowled brilliantly, got bounce from the rough and did not give us free balls. The other bowlers also kept things very tight.”
Mushfiqur reckoned the series as a learning curve for the team said, “If the situation comes up again, we would look to adjust and learn from this. It is a team game and a couple of guys put their hands up. Sadly a couple of them did not do it in this game. It can happen in Tests.”
Bangladesh’s next venture will be a tougher one as the Tigers are scheduled to visit South Africa after this.
Bangladesh Test skipper acknowledged the fact and said, “There are plenty of areas for improvement whether we win or lose. When we go to South Africa the conditions would be very different and we’d need to adjust, come up with new plans and execute well… Shakib and Tamim are positive signs, Mustafizur bowled superbly in the first innings and hopefully we would go well in South Africa.”
