After taking the wrong decision of bowling first in the first Test, it was unlikely for Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim to make the same mistake again. But surprisingly he did again. Mushfiqur elected to bowl first in a track which looked even better from the Potchefsfroom track to bat on.
Everyone was shocked and so as the former South African fast bowler Shaun Pollock. He said after the 2nd test: “I can say one thing, I wouldn’t have chose to bowl first in this track. If the pitches turns out to be batting friendly, then the domestic teams here always chooses to bat first. If they think bowling first will be better, still they chose to bat first. They chose to bat first no matter what the pitch looks like. Because the wicket here is very flat.”
The former legendary seamer is disappointed seeing Bangladesh’s performance in this series: “I’m disappointed seeing Bangladesh’s performance. They are playing good at home. Specially they played very well against Australia. They played well at New Zealand too. Compared to that, the way they played here is very disappointing.”
He added: “Bangladesh is playing Test cricket since the last 17 years. They are a very good team in ODI and T20, but I want to see them play well in Test cricket too.”
Pollock is also disappointed to see Shakib not playing the Test series: “I hoped that Shakib will play. In the next two months, Bangladesh have no test matches. He could have take rest in that time. Shakib is a good cricketer. He had the possibility to play well here. I wanted to see him play here.”
