Mominul last played an ODI for Bangladesh in 2015 World Cup against Sri Lanka in Melbourne. He was kept out of contention for ODIs since then. He played 26 ODIs for the Tigers and scored 543 runs in 24 innings at 23.60 with three fifties.
Earlier on Thursday morning (South African time), Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for three ODIs against South Africa. Mominul was added in the squad later in the day.
Though it is yet to know Mominul’s inclusion, but it is quite sure that he has been added as a backup player for Tamim Iqbal, who might be missing the ODI series with thigh injury.
Mominul had a good Dhaka Premier League 2017 season for Gazi Group Cricketers. He scored 584 runs in 16 matches with one century and three fifties. He featured among the top ten batsmen of the tournament.
South Africa-Bangladesh three-match ODI series will begin on October 15 at Diamond Oval, Kimberley.
