Bangladesh had plenty of problems faced in the just completed Potchefstroom Test against South Africa but overshadowing those, the question that has been hovering since the ending of the toss, is why Mushfiqur Rahim opted to field first? [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ উইকেট চিনতেই ভুল মুশফিকের]
When the Tigers skipper was asked the behind reasons of his decision during the presentation ceremony after the match was over in the first session of the final day, he acknowledged the fact of misreading the wicket of Senwes Park.
Mushfiqur said, “To be honest, I didn’t come to know that the wicket was this much flat. I thought batting in the first innings would probably not bring good a total which had to be paid later.”
The statement seemed rather contradictory for Bangladesh skipper as he himself recognized the wicket as dry, flat and a totally batting wicket before beginning the Test match.
Bangladesh lost the first Test by a considerably huge margin of 333 runs after being overwhelmingly outclassed by Proteas bowlers in the second innings where they scored just 90 runs chasing the total of 424 runs.
