Sri Lanka are scheduled to tour Pakistan for the third T20I but the players reportedly showed strong reluctance to do so. In a letter signed by team members, the Sri Lankan cricketers urged the match to be moved in a neutral venue.
Although SLC is trying hard to convince cricketers for the tour, one of the players who signed the letter said the cricketers might not change their stance at all.
Since the attack on Sri Lankan cricket bus in Lahore in 2009, no team except Zimbabwe toured Pakistan. In a recent occasion, the final of the Pakistan Super League occurred in Lahore for which several foreign recruits of the two finalist team toured Pakistan. The series between World XI and Pakistan national team also aroused tremendous crowd sensation in the country.
SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said cricketers’ security is their prime concern and a final decision would be taken at the ex-co meeting.
Except the last T20 international, all matches of the ongoing bilateral series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
For Pakistan Cricket Board, the issue is rather a big blow after all the expectations of bring international cricket back in the country.
