In the neutral venue of the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka registered a sensational 68 run win over Pakistan in the second and final Test match of the two Test series which was also a pink ball affair and thus white washed Pakistan.
Pakistan failed to capitalize the valiant century of Asad Shafiq and of his fourth wicket stand with Captain Sarfraz Ahmed, were ultimately dismissed scoring 248 runs on day five. Shafiq scored 112 runs, his eleventh hundred in Test cricket.
Pakistan’s hope departed with the departure of Asad Shafiq when he was caught by Mendis off the bowling of Suranga Lakmal. Resuming the fifth day with the total of 198 for 5, Pakistan could add only 50 runs with their overnight total in the fifth day.
Dilruwan Perera returned with figure of 5 for 98 in the second innings of Pakistan to lead Sri Lanka into the victory.
Sri Lanka set a target of 317 runs for Pakistan to win the match after they fall apart in their second innings at the score of 96 runs. Haris Sohail claimed 3 wickets in 1 over conceding a single run, making a Test record of best bowling figure in an over.
This was Pakistan’s first home series loss in last ten years. With that Sri Lanka moved into number sixth position in Test ranking set aside Pakistan.
