Former Test umpire Darrel Hair has been handed an 18 month bond of ‘Good behavior’ by an Australian court after he was found guilty of stealing from a liquor store where he worked.
As local media reported, the 65 year old Hair avoided conviction through paying back 9005.75 AUD to the employer along with a letter of apology.
He, later, admitted of being incurred in addiction of gambling.
Hair was famous in cricket world for calling a ‘no’ ball to legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in 1995 Test series.
He was also among the umpires who sanctioned Pakistan for ball tampering in the fourth Test between England and Pakistan in 2006 Test series. Pakistan refused to play as a result and later, historically the hosts were declared winners.
Darrel Hair officiated in 78 Test matches.
