Toiling Test for Miraz

Toiling Test for Miraz

The Potchefstroom Test against South Africa has been very tough for 19-year-old off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz as he remained wicketless for the first time in his Test career.

Miraz bowled 67 overs in this match and gave 247 runs without taking a single wicket. He bowled 56 overs in the first innings and gave 178 runs while he was taken for 69 runs in 11 overs in the second wicket.

Before Miraz, only four other bowlers have given away 200 runs or more with no wickets. The nightmare record belongs to South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir. He gave 260 runs against Australia in the Adelaide Test in 2012.

Next to Tahir is Pakistan’s Khan Mohammad, who cost 259 runs against West Indies in Kingston way back in 1959. Tahir broke the record 53 years later. Miraz’s name is next to Khan.

Another South African spinner is on the list. Nicky Boje bowled 65 overs for 221 runs against Sri Lanka in the famous Colombo (Sinhalese Sports Club) Test in 2006 in which Kumar Sangakkara (287) and Mahela Jayawardene (374) made a record 624-run partnership.

Another spinner on the list, Zimbabwe’s Raymond Price was without any price for 211 runs against South Africa in Harare in 2001.

Before Miraz, seamer Shahadat Hossain held the record for giving most runs without any wicket in a Test for Bangladesh. He was wicketless for 168 runs in 2010 Hamilton Test against New Zealand.
