Pakistan have a history of producing quality bowlers and spinner Saeed Ajmal is one of them. He was on his way to become one of the great in International cricket but his career took a back turn right after he had change his bowling action.
Ajmal who is now 40 years old is set to announce retirement from all formats. He is currently playing in the domestic tournament National T20 Cup and he is likely to announce retirement after the tournament ends.
He will still be remember as one of the most successful bowler of Pakistan. During his prime time, he was the main force of the team and created many magical spells to guide Pakistan to victories.
Ajmal played 35 Test match and took 178 wickets with an average of 28.10. He was equally outstanding in the ODI format too. He played 113 ODIs and took 184 wickets with an average of 22.72. In T20Is, his stats were also impressive. Playing 64 T20I with an average of 17.84 he took 85 wickets.
But all the success and dominance with the ball came to an end when he was reported for suspect bowling action back in 2009. Though it was cleared soon after but then he was reported again in 2014 and that now has ended the bowler’s International career as he didn’t get a call up in the national team again.
At the time he was banned, he was the no.1 ODI bowler in the world, and in the top ten of both Test and T20 rankings. At that point, nobody had taken more international wickets than him in the preceding three-year period.
