No more slipping away for Comilla Victorians this time; in their second match of the season, the Victorians have achieved the first win of the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Chasing the victory target of 143 runs, Imrul Kayes and Marlon Samules steered Comilla Victorians to a comfortable 8 wicket win over Chittagong Vikings at the Sylhet International Stadium a little while ago.
The target of 143 runs was eased by two openers of Comilla Victorians Litton Kumar Das and Jos Buttler.
They put 43 runs in the opening stand; Subashis Roy made the first breakthrough for the team, in fact Roy is the only bowler of Chittagong Vikings who claimed all two wickets that the Victorians lost in the process of winning.
Buttler scored highest 48 runs in 42 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes while Imrul Kayes and Marlon Samules both were unbeaten scoring 33 and 35 runs to end the innings.
In the initial hours of the days’ play, all Chittagong Vikings did was done by their top three batsmen in the lineup.
Two openers Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar became the highest and second highest scorer of the Chittagong innings and then rest was made by one down batsman Dilshan Munaweera contributed a paltry of runs in the Vikings’ scorecard.
At one stage of the innings, Chittagong Vikings’ crossed 100 run mark in 11.5 overs. Opening pair Ronchi and Soumya partnered for 63 runs in 5.5 overs.
After the departure of Ronchi, bowled by Nabi scoring 40 runs off 21 deliveries, Munaweera joined with Soumya to manufacture another 38 run partnership.
No sooner than Soumya and Munaweera lost their momentum and got back to the pavilion, Chittagong Vikings’ innings fall apart dramatically. No subsequent batsmen except Sikander Raza could even touch the double figure mark resulting the team’s innings accumulated only 143 runs in their allotted 20 overs even after the blazing start.
