Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal is hopeful of Tigers winning the ODI tri-nation series over Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in January. He sees it as a good chance of winning a tri-series. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজে ফেভারিট বাংলাদেশ]
Tamim joined Bangladesh’s practice session on the last day of 2017. He went to gym at first and then did batting practice in the nets.
“Definitely we are expecting to win the tournament. We haven’t played that many tri-series. But we played one final once (in 2009). So it’s a good chance for us. We know our opponents (Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe) well, just the way they know us. We know their strength and weakness. So it will be a good contest,” said Tamim in Mirpur on Sunday.
“We have plenty of scheduled practice sessions before the tournament starts. Hopefully we will prepare ourselves well ahead of our first series in the new year.”
The Tigers’ main strength in the tri-series will be playing in front of the home crowd. Since December 2014, Bangladesh have won six out of seven ODI series at home. That’s why Tamim is seeing Bangladesh as favourites.
“I believe it will be an exciting contest. Sri Lanka are a very dangerous side. And Zimbabwe can beat anyone on their day. But Bangladesh are playing at their home ground. The way we are performing in the home condition in the last two-three years, if we consider that, then definitely we can labelled as favourites in the series,” he said.
