Sri Lanka have avoided the follow-on with centuries from former captain Angelo Mathews and current captain Dinesh Chandimal. But the Lankan lower-order has collapsed on day three of the third Test in Delhi.
Mathews and Chandimal continued on from where they left on day two. They left Indian bowlers wicketless in the morning session. Both reached respective centuries after the lunch. It was Mathews 8th hundred, first in two years and it was number 10 for Chandimal.
The 181-run fourth-wicket partnership from 477 balls was brought to an end by Ravichandran Ashwin. Mathews got dismissed scoring 111 runs off 268 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes.
Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 33 off 61 with 7 boundaries to accompany his captain. As soon as he left, the tourists collapsed. They lost their last four wickets for 26 runs. Sri Lanka ended the day at 356/9 in 130 overs. They did avoid the follow-on but still trail by 180 runs.
Chandimal is still unbeaten at the crease. He is on 341-ball 147* including 18 fours and a six. Ashwin took 3 wickets for 90.
