Bangladesh U-19 will get 11 days of practice before the World Cup begins on January 13. They will play two practice matches against Afghanistan and Pakistan in Christchurch.
The youth tigers have done their preparations at home. They played two warm-up games between them. Some of the cricketers have played in BPL 2017.
“Overall I think we have prepared well. We played in the Asia Cup (last month) and performed well as a team. The level of motivation is good at the moment. We have played some good cricket there (in Malaysia). We also have the advantage of travelling to New Zealand early. It is a good opportunity for us to learn the condition there,” said Saif.
Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza met Bangladesh U-19 players at BCB Academy in Mirpur on Sunday. He has told the youngsters to play freely.
“He (Mashrafe) shared his experience on the condition in New Zealand and motivated us. He has always supported us. He is a very good motivator and I hope it will help us,” added the Bangladesh U-19 captain.
Bangladesh are in Group C of 2018 U-19 World Cup. They will take on Namibia on the opening day and then Canada on the next day. England will be their last opponent in the group stage on January 17.
The previous Bangladesh U-19 side, led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, played in the semi-finals in 2016. Saif and Pinak Ghosh were part of that team.
