India posted their highest total in T20Is, 260/5 in 20 overs. Overall, it was the joint-second highest total in this format after Australia’s 263/5 vs Sri Lanka in 2016.
Sri Lanka put India to bat first at the toss. Skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were off to a flying start. They put on 165 runs in 12.4 overs. Rohit became only the fifth player to score two T20I hundreds.
The right-hander brought up his hundred in 35 balls, which is the joint-fastest with David Miller. He made 118 runs off 43 deliveries including 12 fours and 10 sixes. He has hit the most number of sixes by an Indian in T20Is.
Rahul made 49-ball 89 with 5 fours and 8 sixes. India lost their last four wickets in last ten balls of the innings. Nuwan Pradeep and captain Thisara Perera took two wickets each.
In reply, Sri Lanka managed only 172 in 17.2 overs. After losing Niroshan Dickwella for 25, Upul Tharanga and Kusal Perera added 109 runs for the second wicket. Tharanga made 29-ball 47 hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Kusal went on to score 77 runs from 37 deliveries including 4 fours and 7 sixes. None of the Sri Lankan batsman made scores of 10 or more after the top three. It took only 25 balls for India to wrap up Sri Lanka’s last nine wickets.
Yuzvendra Chahal went of 52 runs in his four overs, but yet took four wickets. Kuldeep Yadav also cost the same number of runs for his three wickets.
