Having a single match yet to be played before the final of the Tri-nation series, 2018, Sri Lanka’s captain in charge Dinesh Chandimal targeted Bangladesh to confirm their final berth in the series consists with Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
The island nation kept their hopes alive beating Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the last match. Chandimal, who took the responsibility in place of injured regular captain Angelo Matthews, said, they would try to utilize the time ahead of the next match.
“We have three days before the match against Bangladesh. Out batting unit will have to shine. When someone gets a fine start, he has to carry the bat for a longer period of time. We will discuss these among ourselves and will step into the field planning properly,” Chandimal said.
Both Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe were bashed by host Bangladesh in their first matches. Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka in their opening encounter but the Lankans made a strong comeback in their second encounter.
The hosts have two more matches left in hand. On January 23, the Tigers will face Zimbabwe and for the last match of the series, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will check each other on 25 January.
Bangladesh will play a bilateral series consists of two Test and two T20I against Sri Lanka after ending the tri-nation series.
Shakib Al Hasan will open up his new role in the team as a Test captain in the forthcoming series.
