Guptill-Taylor makes it 2-0 for New Zealand

Just like the first ODI, rain caused interruptions in the 2nd ODI too between New Zealand and Pakistan but that couldn’t stop New Zealand from winning the match and take 2-0 lead in the 5 match ODI series.

Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss at Saxton Oval. The top order couldn’t contribute anything except Mohammad Hafeez who scored an useful 60 from 71 balls. But the lower order brought all the surprises with Shadab Khan scoring 52 and bowler Hasan Ali scoring 51.

The lower order batsmen helped Pakistan to post a fighting score of 246 runs in their 50 overs. Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the man for New Zealand who conceded just 39 runs and picked up 3 wickets.

Before the start of the 2nd innings, the rain came faster than the players and it interrupted the match. After a long break, the match finally resumed and the revised target for New Zealand was 151 runs in 25 overs.

In reply to that, opener Martin Guptill started his innings with a bang and he was on fire till the end and scored 86 from just 71 balls to make sure New Zealand get over the line. Collin Munro and skipper Kane Williamson couldn’t support from the other end but it was Ross Taylor who scored unbeaten 45 runs and supported Guptill till the end. New Zealand won by 8 wickets and go 2-0 up in the 5 match ODI series.
